News and Updates

  • 8/19/2014 - 2.35 out! Patch notes
  • 2.35 will have PVP balance adjustments.

The Basics:

  • Morale, materia, and defense values do not apply in Frontlines. Also, gear is synced down to item level 80.
  • If you are inactive for 2 minutes, you will be expelled from the duty.
  • 3 teams of 24 fight against each other in a dominion/territory control style gametype.
  • Teams are decided by a player's Grand Company, so you cannot party with people in a GC that is different from yours.
  • 1600/1200/800 points are needed to win in 72/48/24 man games.
  • The majority of points can be gained from holding outposts and killing neutral enemies in the middle. Slaying other player characters also awards points.
  • Each job has its own set of PvP specific abilities. In Frontlines, all abilities are available to use at their base versions. Abilities can be enhanced with ability points; enhanced traits can be gained in any order.
  • An ability point is gained every level. 4 are needed to gain one enhanced trait.
  • Enhanced traits generally decrease the cooldown, increase the duration, or enhance the effect or potency of the ability.
  • Completing a match gives myth, soldiery, PVP EXP, and Wolf Marks.

Primal Data Center specifics:

  • Generally, each alliance goes to take an adjacent outpost, with alliance B sending one to claim their base outpost and then heading off to assist either A or C. At 28:00, B breaks off to contest the middle tower as the first set of Interceptor Drones spawn at 27:00.
  • If an outpost is unclaimable or too well-defended, it's usually better to just take another outpost.
  • Interceptor Node is worth 200 points so mid is always worth contesting.
  • Never listen to anything Bishop Swordmaster says if you are Immortal Flames.
  • The Immortal Flames are really bad on Primal. Stay away!

So why do PVP?

  • Nice source of tomes.
  • The combat is actually kind of fun.
  • PVP animal gear!
  • GC Warhorse mount at 100 wins!
  • Desynth stuff I think!
  • Drama!

there is a post on the se forums that outline points per 10 minutes that helps explain why you want to hold points but I can't seem to find it

Interceptor Drone and Node Spawn Times
First set: 27:00

Additional drones spawn on a 3 minute timer starting from the last defeated drone. Expect the Interceptor Node around 20:00-22:00 (approx).

Points
Defeating Opponents - 3
Capturing a Control Point - 10
Interceptor Drone - 20
Interceptor Node - 200

Points Per Number of Control Points Held (every 3 seconds)
1 CP - 1
2 CPs - 2
3 CPs - 4
4 CPs - 8
5 CPs - 16
6 CPs - 32

The more players you have in the center of the control point, the faster you will capture or neutralize it. This is why it is important to fight on the control point.

Aren't interceptor drones on a 3 minute timer that begins when the final drone of the previous wave dies rather than set times?

I believe so, they normally spawn around 23:30 for me in the second set.

Yeah so it's important for someone on B team to get the timer on them so they can anticipate the first 3 drone sets. Regardless, travel time from an edge outpost is like a minute to middle so people should be on the way around those times anyways (28, 24:30, etc).

That makes sense. Updated my post.

How does the Node work? A set amount of time after the second set of drones dies? It's been by far the most variable I've seen.

I've been told that the flag capture size caps at 4, so a full party inside the circle against 4 enemies will count as a draw.

Not really sure. Seems like a lot of sites and forums say it's between 21:00 - 22:00 but the variability itself isn't accounted for yet it seems. I'll keep an eye out tomorrow and try to get some data on it.

Yeah I believe that's how it works. Remember reading that exact reasoning in one of the FAQs. Too lazy to pinpoint which one had that info.
